How New Network and Service Assurance Capabilities Can Transform the Subscriber Experience

As a broadband service provider (BSP), you require deep visibility into the network to see what’s working and what’s not and who is impacted. To do so, you need the correct tools and technologies to accurately assess and monitor the quality and reliability of the broadband service for subscribers.

Calix Cloud®, a key module of the Calix Broadband Platform, continuously features innovative broadband network and service assurance capabilities. Using the latest automation technologies, operations and support teams can simplify processes and quickly access actionable insights about key network events that affect subscribers, services, and systems. By taking this proactive approach, operations teams can often identify and address issues before they impact subscribers.

The Benefits of Assuring the Broadband Experience

The latest enhancements to Calix Operations Cloud provide new benefits:

  • Speed and latency testing directly from the optical network terminal (ONT). Accurate speed and performance testing are critical to ensure BSPs meet service agreements and regulatory requirements. Service providers can now test ONT performance, even without access to the residential gateway, a key requirement for open-access networks.

  • The ability to differentiate high-value subscribers. The impact of disruption is particularly problematic for your high-value subscribers who receive the highest service levels and expect immediate attention. New features in Operations Cloud enable BSPs to quickly filter and locate high-value subscribers during disruptions using geo-mapping—ensuring they are prioritized for even quicker support and issue resolution. Service disruptions, notifications, and reports also explicitly identify high-value customers.

  • Proactive and scheduled reports on network alarms and traffic trends. Don’t spend valuable time sifting through reams of data to identify network issues or understand traffic trends. Network operations teams can now receive everything they need via automated and scheduled reports.

These capabilities offer operations teams a simple and integrated solution for ONT-based speed and latency testing, a key requirement in open-access networks. They also provide a complete view of network events and subscriber impacts, providing insights to act faster and more effectively than ever before.

This approach reduces time spent on repetitive network tasks—freeing up valuable human resources, lowering OPEX, and cutting expensive truck rolls. Plus, it enables operations teams to positively impact the subscriber experience.
