The next evolution in PON technologies
- International Telecommunication Union (ITU) standard for delivering next generation capabilities for FTTx deployments.
- Defined as ITU-T G.9804 HSP G.hsp - Higher Speed PON
- 50G allows both asymmetric (50G downstream/ 25G upstream) and symmetric 50G PON (50G downstream / 50G upstream) to coexist on the same fiber helping BSPs target residential/business market segments simultaneously.
50G PON can operate at 1286nm +/- 2nm upstream and 1342nm +/- 2nm downstream. This enables it to operate on the same fiber with existing GPON and XGS-PON deployments for exceptional flexibility and low total cost of ownership.
Support for higher speed business and wholesale leased line eliminates dedicated separate networks and fibers.
Single network provides common management, increased automation, and reduced operational cost and leverage existing investments in resources and people.
Allows a physical broadband network including the PON to be partitioned into multiple logical networks, called a network slice, delivering services on par with dedicated active Ethernet networks while still using a single wavelength for all subscribers.
Slices may be statically reserved or dynamically created then removed allocated and each slice can have distinct bandwidth, QoS and latency parameter settings.
Slices can be established to provide business subscribers with a minimum bandwidth guarantee, while offering a significantly higher non-guaranteed bandwidth class.
Service in one slice can be guaranteed for throughput, latency and jitter without impacting other logical slices.
Slice isolation enables per-slice performance, traffic separation, security, privacy, and end-to-end management and orchestration.
